I am a Democrat running for Michigan’s House District 108.
Much of who I am and what I stand for is a result of my extensive experience in the human intelligence field. At 21, I made the honorable decision to join the U.S. Army as a Human Intelligence (HUMINT) Collector in April 2005. Upon completion of the U.S. Army 97E HUMINT course in Fort Huachuca, AZ in February 2006, I became an Interrogation and Source Operations Team Leader in Iraq. I would hold that position until leaving the Army in December 2008 before taking on an instructor position for the 35M HUMINT course with Integrated Systems Improvement Services in Ft. Huachuca, AZ. Not long after, I joined the Department of Defense as a senior instructor for the same course. Throughout my time in my intelligence career I completed the Army Basic Instructor course, Reid Interrogation course, and Battlefield Forensics course.
If I had to summarize the most challenging aspect of my military experience, it wouldn’t be the training, or even the time away from the comforts of home, it would be witnessing the effects of war on the children of Iraq and on my children back home. My fellow soldiers and I stood on the front line of human suffering, filled with an incredible pull to help, and without the resources to do so. When I returned home, I made the conscious decision to dedicate my life to actively taking the steps necessary to make the world a better place. I will do whatever it takes to ensure that my children, and the children of the generations to come, live in a world designed for their safety and future success. That is why we chose the UP to raise our family many years ago. It’s safe, beautiful, and is home to the friendliest people you will ever meet. Raising our 5 children has been my priority since moving to the UP. It’s important for our communities for parents to be involved in their kids lives and be central to their growth.
Having witnessed self-serving politicians destroy our country, making decisions to enrich themselves rather than those they are intended to serve, regardless of their political stance, has inspired me to stand up for what I believe is the next appropriate course of action for our beautiful country. As your state representative, I will fight to provide unwavering leadership and service. This is not a job, it’s a duty position.
